Miami-Dade firefighters rescued a man from a canal overnight after his truck was found near Northwest 116th Way and West Okeechobee Road.

A Medley police officer was on patrol just after midnight Wednesday when he saw the truck with its lights on and doors open by the side of the road.

A search led investigators to the victim, who had been shot, police said.

"Because of where the body was located we didn't know if he expired," Miami Dade Battalion Fire Chief told Local 10. "They verified he was alive then they pulled him out and took him to the hospital."

The man's identity and condition have not been released.
